    Q. views on media ethics and conflict in mindanao?
-my views in media ethics and conflict in mindanao is that mindanao was portrayed as a war zone, and also terrorist, kidnappers, corrupt officials, etc. Are one of the example of characters portrayed by the media practitioners, which means that media practitioners contributed building of stereotypes of muslims. The there are distinguish parties to the conflict, the MNLF (moro national liberation front), and MILF (moro islamic liberation front), civilian muslims , a TV journalist , they were conspiring to overthrow the government.
Q.On what grounds that you agree or disagree with?
    Disagree.
-The ground of result of the media practitioners as a result of prevented the investors to step forward because they were scared because of they have read on the newspapers, of what they heard on the radio, and also what they seen on the television.
    Agree.
-is that mass media practitioners should be more sensitive in terms of the faith and cultures of muslims when they were covering events in mindanao, because muslims have there own privacy in terms of their culture and faith.

After reading the text, there are thoughts came into my mind.
I agree that our mass media practitioners has prevented the investors to step forward in our place because of what they are read in the newspaper, heard over the radio,etc...
A big percentage of the investors would not invest just because of what they hear and read,it would affect our economy. So our mass media practitioners should be careful and sensitive to what they been saying or writing. Our mass media practitioners also play a crucial role in forging peace in a world that seems to be preoccupied with violence.they should do(as what in the text tell)must observe proper dress and decorum when doing coverage or interviews, must investigate the historical background of the Mindanao conflict,be highly conscious of the distinctions between terms denoting religious identity, must examine one source but all the possible source too, must read up on the various cultures of the 13 Muslim ethno linguistic group, and mass media practitioners must be extra careful when describing people who are suspects in a crime. After doing these things I'm sure that they lessen the conflict here in Mindanao.

It is all about on how the reporters, journalists, and media portray. The Mindanao and our Muslim brothers and sisters. Their statement about Mindanao is partly true yet unfair. Partly true because we can't deny the fact that chaos are rampant in Mindanao and the idea of "war zone" is something related on what are the happenings in Mindanao. But it is also unfair for those other regions in Mindanao who lived peacefully, not only to those the idea of the society, they were rate unequal to other member of the society.
Rufa Cagoco-Gulan is right. Mass media practitioners should be sensitive to the faith and cultures of Muslims. They should know first the background of the issue. they should also consider those considerations and be extra careful when describing people.

The exploitation of the Mindanao conflict for a long time by external vested interests for reasons not necessarily for the good or benefit of the marginalized sectors or government. The suspected involvement of international agencies or groups such as Islamic radical movements including terrorist groups or central intelligence agencies of powers cannot be ignored.
Apparently, the subtle hands of ugly politics in local and national levels and fora including the inner sanctums of Congress are nurturing the culture of conflict along irreconcilable lines making use of the rhetorics of constitutionalism, legalism, morality, public order, humanism, and democracy to rally the processes of tri-media for their purposes. It is these political riders in the Mindanao conflict from the viewpoints of the armed protagonists that are prolonging the agonies of war and the ecstasies of vested interests not affected directly by the violence of conflict.

The article gave a relevant information about the conflict here in Mindanao. As I read the article,it talked about the more realistic image of Muslims in Mindanao who have got involve different conflicts, crimes, and violence. It said that Mindanao is a full-blown of "war" and headlines range from bombings, shootouts, kidnapping incidents, and etc. So it means Mindanao cannot easily forge peace because it seems to be preoccupied with violence. In fact, the roots of conflicts are still not illuminated. There were Media practitioners who made an interviews and then they reported it, so that the society will know about this kind of issues. Through this report, the people will be aware that they should not generalize all Muslims if one of their fellow involved any kind of crimes or violence. We should be open-minded of these so that we can't hurt our fellow Muslims. We are already matured and its up to us how to analyze and to understand it.

Yes, mass media practitioner's portrayal can affect our lives, but everyone of us can think if that is really happening or not. Instead we react about the news abruptly, we must read informations and ask questions from other people. Maybe some of the undesirable things were really happening in Mindanao but we must observe on what is really happening before we judge everyone whose living here in Mindanao. Mass media can make our image bad, but they can also help us in solving conflicts and impede peace processes.

I agree with mass media. Because there are other branches of media that do not only report on the bad side of Mindanao. Example, those in the tourism industry, they also report on the good side of the brother Muslims on their contributions on the economic and political growth of Mindanao, during summits and festival. Sad to say, negative reports are more appealing to the reading public. And I suggest that our brother Muslims should also promote peace and order of Mindanao so that they will not be branded as troublemakers. they should show what are they fighting for. The rights must be in accordance with the welfare of the whole Mindanao-ans.We should also respect their rights. Admittedly, mass media is more powerful in expressing what they want to impart to the people.

Mass media practitioners should be careful on their articles and news reports concerning about the events in Mindanao because those things may really affect the lives of the people living in that area specially to our Muslim brothers and sisters.Journalist should be faithful and honest to the news articles they publish. They should only put the exact information on their reports.

Mass media practitioners in the Philippines contributed a lot in our country in terms of spreading news and informations . But some of them give colors to the news they are publishing that sometimes makes unnecessary opinions and actions to the other people.
I agree to Rufa Cagoco-Guiam’s article entitled “Telling the Truth of the “Other”: Image of Islam and Muslim in the Philippines” because what she stated in here article actually happens in real life situations. Some of the mass media practitioners do not consider their physical appearances and etiquette just to acquire and create good news. All they want is to become popular in their field. They do not consider the effects of their actions.
Let’s face the fact that it’s hard to live without the informations given by the mass media practitioners but I, as a student, do not want to obtain good news and information! I need to know the facts about the actual happenings around me because I am living in a real world with a real situation. We should act about this malpractice.

I believe that not all media cover events like that but as what stated there , mass media should be sensitive to the faith and cultures of Muslims, besides not all Muslim are involved in that situation. They must point out the exact issue and exact location in Mindanao for it greatly affects the economy and the people. Also, they must contribute to peace process rather than impeding it.In addition, mass media practitioners must follow the do's and don'ts in covering events with the Muslims in Mindanao. In conclusion, each of us must cooperate to the government in finding ways to achieve peace for conflict in Mindanao is not really a favorable occurrence.

Terrorist, Kidnappers, corrupt officials and all other undesirable characters in society was been portrayed by Mass Media to Mindanao. If I would be ask to choose on what grounds I agree and disagree with? I chose to disagree with the mass media why? Upon reading the article Media Ethics and Conflict in Mindanao, I found out that Mindanao was been criticized by mass media practitioners because of the bad happenings in their region and my opinion to that is, for me if I heard Mindanao region what comes in my mind are our Muslim brothers and sisters who give importance to their traditions and culture that until now they still keep on preserving, they as well treat each other as brothers and sisters that if one of them had conflict to other people they are there to help those who are involve Muslim in the conflict. The question is, If Muslims are the one who make their image as bad? As kidnappers? As terrorists? And all other undesirable characters in the society? do we think all Muslims did that to make their image as bad as we think or as bad as the mass media portrayed ? No. because for me Mindanao is just been a region used for terrorist recruitment and a training base. And it doesn’t mean that Muslims are the one who lead that, we didn’t know it might be other country‘s men who used Mindanao because the image of Mindanao was now known and visualize as an Island war that let other country or region afraid of, because of the news that they’ve heard about the region ;Investors from other country will scared to invest and because of that Muslims from Mindanao region will migrate to another region or change their religion just to surpass the bad image that people thought for them.

As for the Media ethics they are the one who portrayed about the terrorist, kidnappers, corrupt officials and all other undesirable characters in society. Yes, their reports about Mindanao are all correct yet unfair because they only deliver news from Mindanao only in terms of conflict, crime and violence where Muslims are involved. Though there are a lot of development activities are happening in Mindanao, yet it is only the problem that gets reported. And it prevents the investors to step forward because they get scared by what they have read in the news, heard over the radio, etc. Some of the Muslims are affected about the news because many people got scared whenever they met a Muslim and the truth is that not all Muslims are involved in the conflicts in Mindanao. Overall mass media practitioners should be more sensitive to the faith of cultures of Muslims when they are covering events in Mindanao. And they should be extra careful in describing people and what will they report.

Mass media practitioners plays an important part in spreading news or information.

After I read the article "Media Ethics and conflict in Mindanao" there are parts of it that I disagree and agree. I disagree in the statement "that there is a full blown war in Mindanao". Not all places or cities in Mindanao are involved in a war. Media practitioners must be more specific in giving places or giving a report.

I agree in the statement that Muslim kidnappers/bandits never in Christian kidnappers/bandits. Can you observe in national news they only report in Mindanao about war and etc. and usually the suspect or main subject are Muslims. If Muslims war-freak? In reporting there should be no discrimination specifically in religion. I also agree in the statement "Mass media practitioners must be aware of their critical and influential role". The people in the Philippines easily believe in what they heard or watch. So the mass media practitioner should be more careful in their reports because of their critical and influential role.

  18. I disagree to the quotation that Mindanao is "war zone" because not all places here in Mindanao is suffering from war. In fact, I lived peacefully here in our land of promise, though sometimes we cannot prevent wars, but its normal. Even Luzon and Visayas also experienced war. That's why mass media practitioners should not generalize Mindanao as full-blown area.

Mass Media practitioners contribute a big role in our society. They are the people who spreads and give information on what are the happenings and the headlines news. They report all events and news so that we, people of this society will be aware for the latest issues.
I agree in the statement of Rufa Cagoco-Guiam, Mindanao State University Center for Peace and Development Studies Director, in her article entitled “Telling the Truth of the "Other": Images of Islam and Muslims in the Philippines”, related the do's and don'ts for non-Muslim mass media practitioners covering events and processes with the Muslims in Mindanao. It is because media is the one who is entitled or required to speak the truth, to spread the truth because we people of the society are always listening to them so they should speak out the truth .

Based on what I've read ,, I can say that MASS MEDIA PRACTITIONERS contributed a lot on spreading headlines in related to conflicts of Mindanao. We all know that the percentage of Muslim's population is in Mindanao. And with no offense,Muslim groups such as MILF,MNLF and CIVILIAN MUSLIM are to blame on the undesirable activities happened such as -kidnapping,bombing, military ambushes and etc.

I disagree on Muslims groups vision and activities that is contrast to our higher government . And also I STRONGLY AGREE' about what RUFA CAGOCO-GUIAM state on her 'Telling The Truth Of The Other'. And with RINA JIMENEZ DAVID's 'Positive Spin Of Mindanao'.It must be proper that non-muslim mass media practitioners must know the do's and dont's on covering events w/ the Muslim in Mindanao to be able to have peaceful interactions w/ them. In addition mass media practitioners must be specific and responsible on their reports for in every wrong word they state it could already affect the reputation or pride of Mindanao. And also it may affect or block the coming of investors due to the doubts in taking risk on taking up a business that can cause to our economy to weaken .

So I therefore conclude that in every profession we have [ in mass media practitioners to be specific ] we must be knowledgeable ,sensitive and responsible enough to help not only our region but also our country's economy to level up.

on my own opinion,I agree that media should be extra very careful on stating issues about mnlf, milf, and abusayyaf since we planted it in our minds that media always tell truth about certain news in our country.on the contrary i disagree on the things that media would say on terrorists, not all of those statements were true at all,the bottomline is medias job is very crucial and critical so they should be very hands on on their issues certainly about terrorisms.

Mass media are the one who gives information and the one who gives current happenings around the world through the technology that we have in the present. Because of them, people’s awareness increases as they receive the details of their reports. In the article “Media Ethics and Conflict in Mindanao”, mass media practitioners play a very important role in the society. They can influence the mind of individual in considering who’s telling the truth or not. They may convince, inform and even influence people.
This article talks about the current situation in Mindanao and how mass media practitioners deliver it to the public. I disagree with Gina Mission's statement that Mindanao is portrayed as a war zone. Not the whole part of Mindanao has disorder event, I think only a part of Mindanao. It’s wrong to say that it is a dangerous place to go and live with. Because if they said that it's a dangerous place, there should be no tourists that visit here. There should be no foreigners would invests here. And I must not be here too. That is why mass media practitioners should know there limitations. but as we all know, we are just human ,

we stand in our own words.BUT that doesn't mean we are all right!

About this problem, which is Mindanao was a war zone (muslims) ,I just want to say that there is no perfect country ,from the beginning, every country undergone by many wars, just to have FREEDOM OR DEMOCRACY .. THE media must be extra careful about delivering their infos. Because, it affects us a lot . (mindanao)BECAUSE, WHAT MEDIA TELLS, IT INFLUENCES the people ..
Some people believes on what media posted on tv, radios & others, and at the back of the media was just a human ,a human whos not perfect.THEY MUST BE SUPER EXTRA CAREFUL ENOUGH.

But suddenly, I am not agree about their report that "Mindanao is a War Zone". As a dabawenyo, I cannot say that Mindanao is a war zone. You can live here without hose big moneys around, because Mindanao is full of Food Resources. All of the peoples here are striving hard to moved away their past lives.

This article also tells us that the Mass Media practitioners must respect the rights Muslim & Christian's ethics living in the Mindanao. The article will rally help the mass media practitioners to become more sensitive about the different issues in Mindanao.

Their statements about Mindanao is somewhat not good. First, because they are describing Mindanao as a whole. Not all parts of Mindanao is in chaos. maybe there are really some places in where you can really call it a war-zone. But it is not right to describe Mindanao as a place of war. It will be very unfair to the places in Mindanao that has peace. It can also destroy the name of the place, and it can really affect the tourism in the place. Even foreigners and investors get scared by what they have read in newspapers, heard over the radio and seen in the television. It is because mass media practitioners deliver news from Mindanao only in terms of conflict, crime and violence. Headlines range from bombings, shootouts, military ambushes, kidnapping incidents and failed ceasefires. And these involved our Muslim's bothers and sisters. It is just sad and disappointing that our own and fellow Filipinos are the one contributing this kind of image in Mindanao.

I live in Mindanao. And I can say that I am proud to be a Mindanao-an and i live here peacefully. And I disagree that it is a war zone. There is a Japanese businessman once said that "Give me Mindanao and I can feed the world". This just means that the public have mistaken the image of Mindanao.Mass media practitioners should not just report the negative sides of Mindanao but instead they must also look for the positive side of it.

I agree as to what others said. The media keeps on showing or saying the negative or bad side which is happening here in Mindanao. Yes, there might be some good news but only the bad ones will remain in peoples mind. Because of this tourists will not come here, and even investors too. It is because people are scared because of the bad things they've heard from here. I think the mass media should be careful with their reports or the information they give because many people will take note of it even the smallest detail.

I Totally agree with the article which said there that “mass media practitioner's portrayal has prevented the investors to step forward because they get scared by what they have read in the newspapers, heard over the radio, and seen in the television” because as an additional with that article,
Mass media practitioners should also be sensitive when it comes to their works. One clear advantage with their works for us is that it provides us with all the information on current affairs, history and other subjects. However, disadvantage is that we cannot distinguish the information from misinformation. In any situation in terms of reality, mass media practitioners sometimes are getting exaggerated by their works for it to be effective to their readers for them to be satissfy. This means that people can be easily manipulated by the people who control the media.

Mass media practitioner, we vouch to their dedication to their professions and we know that half of their life is in danger, just to bring and let the people aware of what happened around us. But it is reasonable that they would spread the news where they really don't know the beginning ?

I agree that they have contributed to the conflict of war in Mindanao , they exaggerate the description of our brother Muslims, we never heard the good things about them, all we heard from their are crime, violence, bombing shootouts, military ambushes, kidnapping, all that things is blamed to our brother Muslims. That's also the reason why the other investors afraid to invest in Mindanao. But what about the innocent Muslim who are not related to the war ? Should we deprive their rights and peace as country fellow men ? Maybe it's time that the mass media should be sensitive to the faith and culture of Muslims.

Media practitioners have contributed a lot in terms of relaying information to the public . They are the ones who have the capacity to influence our impressions and views about a certain topic. That is why ,our media practitioners should be careful when encountering a sensitive issue ,for instance, Mindanao is viewed as a war zone in the Philippines ( an excerpt in the article "Media Ethics and Conflict in Mindanao"). I, as a college student disagree on this one because war is not rampant on all the places in Mindanao, there are specific places that are experiencing war during this time but not the entire island. Moreover, our media practitioners should not be one-sided only when delivering a news. "Terrorists, kidnappers, corrupt officials and all other undesirable characters in society are usually portrayed by the media practitioners to the image of Muslims in Southern Philippines" This is said to be incorrect because Muslims should not be portrayed as the ones who does all undesirable crimes. In addition to, I also disagree because there are a lot of people from different religions and cultures who are doing evil acts far more worse than Muslims.

Lastly, our media practitioners should religiously follow their code of ethics. They should remind themselves that in every independence, it should be coupled with responsibility.

I agree with all the statements in the article. Doubtlessly, mass media practitioners have contributed greatly to the building of stereotypes to Muslims. They often deliver news from Mindanao in terms of conflict and crime and seldom inform the public about Mindanao’s economic growth and any other positive events. In addition, the “Muslim” label is often attached to the “bad guys” like terrorist, kidnappers and corrupt officials even if their religion has nothing to do with it. This gives the general public the idea that Mindanao is not a safe place because of the Muslim population. This prevented the investors to step forward and invest in Mindanao which could have greatly helped our economic growth.

As a Business Administration student, this holds a great importance to me. The image of Mindanao should be changed in order for us to gain investors and grow economically and in this; we seriously need the cooperation of our mass media practitioners. Indeed, they could either make or break us.

I agree that the insights of the mass media practitioner had blocked both local and foreign investors to come in our place. It is simply because of what they heard over the radio, seen on television and even read on news papers/tabloids. The lesser the investors daring to come in our place it could greatly affect the economy in our place. We do have lots of tourist spots here; because of what they heard and read foreigners might get afraid, it could hardly affect the tourism of the place. The mass media practitioner should be sensitive more enough and be careful on what they were saying. Before relieving their ideas and opinions, mass media practitioner should know first the historical background of Mindanao conflict and the government’s policy in terms of peace negotiation. They should be extra careful in describing the suspect of the crimes. And i disagree about what they quoted about Mindanao is a "war zone". 62. The practitioners of Mass Media has a big contribution in terms of getting and knowing information about the issues and news in our daily lives. They also have a big influence in people. We can find their reports through television, newspaper, radio and other informative materials. So as a popular and influential source of information they must be responsible in comes to their reports.
For me, I think they are being unfair portraying Mindanao as a "war zone" as well as our Muslims brothers and sisters. When people hear words such as Mindanao and Muslims, automatically the first impression of the people (especially those who lives in Luzon and those who never goes to Mindanao) is place of bombing, terrorism, kidnapping and other dangerous happenings. But we all know that this is not true, they are describing Mindanao and Muslims as whole. Not all places in Mindanao are dangerous and not all Muslims are terrorist. They must consider the innocent citizens living in here, on how their actions affects the lives of the accused. Instead of looking the bad sides of this place why don't they portray the good qualities and beautiful side of Mindanao. Mass media practitioners must be sensitive and responsible.

I agree on the statement, "Mass media practitioners should be sensitive to the faith and cultures of Muslims when they are covering events in Mindanao." "STEREOTYPING", that what usually comes to everyone's minds when news are being exaggerated. Giving information to listeners and viewers by our respected media practitioners sensitively are only a few of their roles for us to become aware of what's happening around us. They make us keen observers to whatever issues and thus make us alert and attentive. They also give us a view of how safe or unsafe a certain place is. Therefore, they should be careful on whatever they say or whatever they relay to its viewers. That's what I don't agree with some media practitioners in delivering their message. They should be fair enough to give opinions over a certain issue. In the article entitled "Media Ethics and Conflict in Mindanao", I am not pleased with what the media practitioner called Mindanao as it is today "Mindanao is a war zone". Yes, it is true that Mindanao was one of the sites of some bombing and kidnapping incidents in the country but it is not appropriate to called it as a "war zone". Those reasons aren't enough! I would like also to raise my own perception in the issue of reporting those cases of bombings and the like while discarding those activities in Mindanao in relation to peace keeping. Where is the word "fairness" to those media practitioners?Anyway I would like to emphasized that in every reports made by those media practitioners about the chaos in Mindanao were always involved our fellow Muslims and it was evidently seen that instead of reporting those actual, complete and fair informations such as who, when, where and how the thing happened, the reported informations were insufficient. In result, some people will perceived Muslims as "war freak" which is not right! Now, for those media practitioners, "to be fair" must always shown in the process of spreading information because if not it might lead to misinterpretations.

Our language should be neutral and normal. We should avoid gratitous references to appearance or attire, while recognizing the situations when these details are relevant. A certain article like media ethics and conflict in Mindanao, contributed to building up the stereotypes among the Muslims in Mindanao, and to its people who lives in Mindanao. The investors, visitors and other business matters which get scared by what they read in the newspapers, hears over the radio and seen i the television. I agree on the numbers 1,2,3,4,5 ad 6 which mass media practitioers covering events and processes with the Muslim in Mindanao because the showed an unfavorable comments. However, it does not necessarily compensate for the harm done by a misleading news report. When the potential for communal tension takes place the effort to investigate and expose the underlying causes should be observed. One thing I don't like in the article is that people nowadays giving points, opinions, comment all those forms of stereotyping which might hurt the feelings of other people, to which is not part of the crime because of the group they belong has a mark already. It gives us an idea that they are also like what other people do. When there is a violence, particular care should be taken place. But, all of those article about the Muslim in Mindanao were just a propaganda or it's just an opinion of the columnist and to decide to which it's true or not. Mass media practitioners just deliver news only in terms of crime, violence and some incidents such as bombing, shootouts, etc. But what about the good side and behind of this beautiful place, Mindanao? They're just focusing about this wars again and again. And when a new small bad things happen again, these practitioners deliver it again on tv.
Some people outside from mindanao and specially in other country might think that Mindanao is a very dangerous place to visit to, because of such wars between any groups of people (soldiers and militaries) and that has been dilivered by mass media practitioners repeatedly on TV. And because of this, someone fool might gave bad opinions and comments about those tragedies happened. It affects the insights of the tourists, foreigners and to those listeners and might lose trust in visiting in this place and towards people living here. I also strongly disagree with the idea that there is a full-blown “war” in Mindanao. Mass media practitioners should be specific in what particular place in Mindanao because as what I have known, not all places here in Mindanao are having a war. Some Muslims are really good and are not related to crimes. Also they should be specific and conscious because they are a lot of people who are living peacefully in Mindanao. And if they report such negative issues about Mindanao, people in other place will surely become afraid in entering Mindanao since they already had an idea that Mindanao is a place where there are lots of war and any crimes. 83. The text reveals an important issue concerning in Mindanao. The mass media practitioners do have a great job about Mindanao,as they call "war zone".But they play a crucial role because they make or break Mindanao on what and how they react on the events. And also they should take advantage to the Muslim's belief and culture.Despite of this, they only focused on the conflict, crime and violence even the headline range from bombings, shootouts and the like instead of the political and economic process which generates Mindanao. It does not address the complex relationship between the state and rebels. Thus, they can be either useful or a hindrance in the peace process of Mindanao.

The article was true about how must the mass media must act, because as it was said there that not all Muslims are suspect and they must not generalize they're opinion. They must be careful on what they are reporting, they must study and gather facts so they can't step any human rights. I also agree that tha mass media can help in solving the conflict and they may also impede the peace process in Mindanao. Each people has their own interpretation on what was being said to them.

I disagree of the statement that '' mass media practitioners deliver news from Mindanao only in terms of conflict, crime and violence ''or they call it full-brown war in Mindanao. I disagree because why only crimes are headlines on their news, it may influence the mind of the readers that the Mindanao is a crime City, people in other place will have scar on their mind that the people who are occupying in Mindanao is a dangerous person. When there is a bombing incident, the journalists must dateline their stories where the events/crime took place rather than just saying it was in Mindanao. The journalist must give the specific place at where the crimes happen or incidences happen because Mindanao is a huge place.
Mass media practitioners should be sensitive to the faith and culture of Muslims when they are covering events in Mindanao. Media must telling the truth of the other, the other civilian Muslims ''madamy''of the journal that they did and I think they only base on MILF and Abu Sayyaf because most of the members of MILF and Abu Sayyaf are Muslims so when the people read the news, people might be scarred or will be scarred in Muslims.
